Patients Frustrated: GP Satisfaction Hits Record Low

Recent research conducted by a leading healthcare provider has revealed that a third of adults struggle to secure a GP appointment, with nearly 40% waiting more than a week to be seen.

The growing challenge in accessing primary care services has coincided with an unprecedented decline in public satisfaction with GPs, as reported by the latest British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey. According to the survey, satisfaction with GP services has plummeted to its lowest level since the survey began in 1983.

Adding to the strain, ongoing negotiations between the government and the British Medical Association (BMA) have sparked concerns, with GPs warning that one of their protest measures may involve reducing the number of available appointments. This could further limit access to essential healthcare services, exacerbating the frustration already felt by many patients.

In response to the mounting crisis in NHS GP services, the adoption of remote consultations has surged, providing an alternative solution for patients seeking timely medical advice. The convenience and accessibility of remote GP services have offered some relief, allowing individuals to consult with a GP from the comfort of their homes, thus providing much-needed peace of mind.

Several companies have stepped in to meet this growing demand. For instance, BUPA recently launched a remote GP subscription service, offering unlimited consultations at a cost of £16.66 per month or £200 per year. Meanwhile, 1Stop4aGP has entered the market with competitive pricing, offering annual plans at rates lower than BUPA’s monthly fee, making remote healthcare more accessible to a broader audience.

As the landscape of primary care continues to evolve, remote GP services may play an increasingly vital role in ensuring that patients receive the care they need in a timely manner, despite the ongoing challenges faced by the NHS.
