Rushed GP Visits Leave Patients with Unspoken Worries

Survey Reveals 40% of Patients Feel 10-Minute Appointments Are Insufficient

A recent survey has highlighted that many patients leave GP appointments without addressing all their health concerns. According to an Ipsos poll, 40% of Britons felt that the standard 10-minute consultation did not allow enough time to discuss everything on their minds. As a result, two-fifths of patients reported leaving appointments with unvoiced worries.

This situation has led to criticism, particularly from older patients, who feel that GPs are more focused on ending appointments quickly than fully addressing their concerns. While 51% of respondents said they managed to discuss "everything" or "most things" during their last GP visit, 40% admitted they could only bring up "some things," "hardly anything," or "nothing at all."

The survey also revealed that 72% of people would prefer longer consultations, with one in five favouring a 20-minute session over the current 10-minute standard.
